$41.99
The EKQ Solar Fence & Wall Lights arrive as a neat six-pack of slim, half-moon fixtures—each no larger than a handspan—promising to solve an age-old backyard gripe: how do you keep paths and fences visible after dark without stringing extension cords or burning through batteries? I installed all six units along a cedar fence that runs the length of my patio, spacing them about five feet apart. Mounting is genuinely fuss-free: two pilot holes and a pair of stainless screws per light. A peel-and-stick option is included, though I preferred the mechanical hold of hardware.
Out of the box, the EKQs default to a steady warm-white glow, but a quick press of the rear button cycles them into an RGB “party” mode that scrolls gently through a spectrum of colours. In warm-white, the lamps give off a soft 3000 K tone—bright enough to outline steps and seating areas yet restrained enough not to blind guests. The real test, of course, is endurance. After a full, partly-cloudy day of charging, mine clicked on automatically at dusk and ran a shade over nine hours before dimming. Winter performance will almost certainly drop; the fixed solar panel angle can’t be adjusted to chase the low sun, so buyers in northerly climates may see shorter runtimes in December and January.

Build quality feels better than the price implies. The ABS/PC shell has no obvious seams, the gasketed lens seats firmly, and each unit carries an IP65 rating. A week of Atlantic spring rain did nothing to the housings—no fogging, no moisture behind the lens. That said, the integrated battery is not user-replaceable; once capacity eventually fades, the entire light must be swapped.
Where these lights truly earn points is simplicity. There’s no motion sensor to mis-fire, no app, no bridge—just charge in daylight and shine at dusk. If you value granular control or smart-home integration, you’ll have to look higher up the food chain. But for anyone wanting an economical, cordless way to frame a deck, highlight plantings or mark a driveway edge, EKQ’s set delivers a balanced mix of practicality and ambience.
